Dietary Preferences
Set optional dietary preferences so Grocery Savvy can highlight foods and recipes with helpful tags and alerts.
Overview
Dietary Preferences help Grocery Savvy highlight foods and recipes based on what matters to you. These preferences are optional, but we recommend setting them up for the best experience.
When You Set Preferences
You can select dietary preferences during onboarding when you first set up the app.
You can update them anytime in Settings -> Dietary Preferences.
How Preferences Appear in the App
When you search for foods, browse foods, or scan items, Grocery Savvy uses visual cues to help you review items more quickly:
- Green border — The item matches the preferences you selected.
- Orange border — The item has an allergen or a consideration tag, so it should be reviewed more closely.
On the Recipes screen, dietary tags are used as filters so you can narrow results and remove filters as needed.
Learning More About Dietary Tags
You can tap a dietary tag to learn:
- What the tag means
- How Grocery Savvy uses the tag in the app
- How the tag is generally calculated
Most tags are based on FDA, USDA, or other commonly used nutrition and ingredient information.
Important Note
Dietary preferences and tags are designed as a helpful guide. They can help you review foods and recipes faster, but they are not medical advice and should not replace guidance from your healthcare provider.
If you use Grocery Savvy to review allergen concerns, read Major Food Allergens to understand which allergens the app currently checks for and what the app can and cannot confirm.
